We have a unique creative approach, which encompasses three key elements

Union

Pottery facilitates a union of body, mind, and clay; a union of the ego and the natural spirit; and a union of the mundane and the divine.

Working with clay helps to move you from constriction to expansion, from fear to love, and from separation to unity.

Harmony

Over time, pottery becomes something you live, not just something you “practice.”It brings union and harmony to every encounter. When your inner world begins to change, your outer world shifts to reflect the new perspective obtained through your encounter with earth and fire.

Meditation

You can become lost in meditation when working with clay, as meditation and pottery are two complementary practices with the same purpose. To experience the union of body, mind, and spirit, you must practice being your true Self. Be non-judgmental by closing your eyes and observing the movement of clay in your hands. If thoughts arise, don’t try to rid yourself of them but, instead, become aware of them and let them go. As you practice being calm, focused, and unattached, you gradually will become aware of the difference between your true Self and your fear-based ego.

HiDe’s classes have consistently been the highlight of my week for over a year. HiDe offers a unique ceramics experience both in his drop-in and regular class. It can be difficult to capture the essence of pottery in a 80-minute session, but I believe HiDe does a great job of it. Anyone who disagrees either has a wildly unrealistic expectation of pottery or wants their hand held through the whole process, which I believe is impossible to do and counterproductive to the whole experience. Took my best friend here for her birthday present. We did the 80 min class and Hide is a knowledgeable and friendly teacher. It was a little intimidating at first because my best friend and I haven’t touched clay or ceramics since high school! Hide showed us how to build a bowl and a cup. We decided we would both make big bowls and Hide encouraged us to have fun and if we had any questions to ask away. Once we were on the wheel, Hide kept reminding us to “have fun” and “enjoy” the moment…I’m sure he noticed we were stiff as heck with serious faces on. I really liked how he let us work on our clay by ourselves but would frequently come check up on us to make sure our clay was coming along and if it wasn’t, he would guide us in the right direction….

Our entourage rolled up here for a GF’s birthday “fun-thing-to-do” and it was indeed fun!  HiDe is a small ceramic-making studio that can accommodate all 8 of us for a private class and we operates on a 4 on foot wheel and 4 on table basis. The instructor HiDe started the class with bowl and vase demonstration while we were madly kneading the brown practise clay. The clay we use for the craft is the white clay which is easier to work with. There are lots of feedback and support during class as the HiDe dances around to yield a helping hand. He is a gregarious person in a Japanese way- If you don’t like straight up feedback and are easily offended then you might be nettled by his teaching with comments such as “no that’s not possible to make that,” or “you should wait for me before you do that…” Lol The cost is $47…

I took classes with Hide for almost four years, and would definitely continue if I was not moving away! One of the things I most loved about it was how the class changed as your skills developed – early on, Hide guides you closely, but as you gain skill you get the benefit of his expertise if you need help or want to do something challenging, but otherwise you are free to work as you choose. You get to explore different techniques, clay, and glaze, to find the things that you like best. The flexibility of scheduling was also great for people like me who travel a lot and can’t commit to a specific schedule. •payment of monthly and accommodating plan can be done before or after the first class of the session. HiDe ceramic works accepts credit card and cash(not debit card).

•all Freedom and Accommodating plan tickets and discount coupons are non-refundable.

•Expiry of Freedom and Accommodating plan and monthly plan can be extended up to one month only if you notify HiDe Ceramic Works that you are "physically "away for more than 10days So you will not be able to attend classes for the period of time with a proof of the trip in advance of the first class of the session.

•The classes are designed for recreational use only. not for the accomplishment of particular projects like commercial or school projects. 

Dear Aspiring Artists,  

Since the beginning of the COVID-19 break out, we were already carefully planning on how we can further our hygiene standards in preparation for your return. With your continued interest and contributions to the studio, we thank you for the opportunity to re-open our doors so you can explore your artistic inspirations gained from these hard times. We are expecting to open our studio to you on July 1st 2020.

Given the current situation needing extra sanitary times as well as social distancing, Drop-In Classes are only offered during Saturdays and Sundays between 10:30AM-12:00PM (subject to change). This can easily be booked the same way on our website https://hideart.com/contents/dropin_e/. As for weekly classes they resume back to normal with the exception of Wednesday and Thursday Daytime classes which are temporarily suspended(subject to change). Please contact HiDe directly to make changes to your regular class. 

As we care about everybody's safety and well-being, we will continue to monitor the ever-changing situation of the COVID-19 pandemic. We have created new procedures adhering closely to the current BC Centre for Disease Control regulations. These includes (but not limited to):

1) Social Distancing - There will be 2 meter distancing between each student at the studio and teachers will try their best to assist with students' artistic needs at a comfortable distance. There will also be vinyl partitions separating each work station.

2) Smaller Class Size - In order to meet the social distancing aspect, there will be a maximum of 9 students at the studio at any given time - this also leaves space for enhanced teacher-student relationships.

3) Sanitation - There will be a sanitation station at the entrance of the studio mandatory for everyone to use before coming in. After class, students will continue to wash their respective tools and put them in a "Used and Washed" container where teachers will then sanitize with an alcoholic agent. After, they will be placed in a "Sanitized" container ready for next use. Unclean water used to wash and sanitize will be disposed of by teachers at the end of class. Discretionary sanitation will also be made around the studio when there are no classes. 

4) Ventilation - Ventilation fans are equipped within the studio, and the front door will be left open for to ensure sufficient air exchange 

While we work at keeping the studio germ-free, we mandate that everybody who enters the studio wears a face mask so we can work hand-in-hand to prevent the spread of germs and flatten the curve.

No experience necessary! It's a fun, great, and easy way to relax and be creative.  You can enrich your life by using your own works, or give your creations away to someone as a gift! (Our pottery is lead-free, dishwasher-safe, and microwave-safe.)
