About the Class
-
Details
- Duration: 80-minute, one-time drop-in class.
- Focus: You will work on a pre-broken ceramic piece provided by us to learn the process and concepts. This hands-on experience will give you the foundational knowledge needed to repair your own pieces at home.
- Materials: All tools and materials are provided. To ensure your safety and prevent allergic reactions, we use a synthetic lacquer that is safe and easy to work with, rather than traditional lacquer (urushi). This special coating adheres to Japan's strict Food Sanitation Act's "negative list" of substances prohibited for use in food-contact materials, ensuring it's free from specified harmful chemicals.
- Take-Home Knowledge: We will also introduce you to food-safe Kintsugi materials available for purchase in Canada so you can continue your practice at home.
- Note: Please do not bring your own broken items to the class. The goal of this class is to teach you the method, so you can mend your personal pieces at home at your own pace.
- Shop: Tools and materials will also be available for purchase at the studio.
